M-Commerce

The Next Step for E-commerce and E-Business
  • Mobile commerce (m-commerce)/Mobile business (m-business) is the ability to conduct commerce, using a mobile device e.g. a mobile phone (cell phone), a PDA, a smartphone and other emerging mobile equipment such as dashtop mobile devices. Mobile Commerce has been defined as follows:
  • "Mobile Commerce is any transaction, involving the transfer of ownership or rights to use goods and services, which is initiated and/or completed by using mobile access to computer-mediated networks with the help of an electronic device.“
  • Third generation (3G) telecommunications is data-capable wireless technologies.
    - Europe purchased 3G licenses in 2000; United States in 2004.
    - $40 billion per year global industry by 2009.
